If there ever was a time of year – scratch that. If there ever was a YEAR to give back, it’s this year. As nurses, we already dedicate our lives to giving back in the best way we can – by caring for others in need.
But, what if you’re looking to do more? If you’re thinking about donating money or supplies to a charity this season, it can be a little overwhelming because there are simply so many of them. To help, we’ve narrowed the list down to 5 that we think are doing great things this year. Take a look.
1. Nurses House

Description: This national charity organization was designed to specifically help nurses in need. Donations go towards supporting those in nursing who need housing assistance and medical bill assistance.
2. American Nursing Foundation
Charity Navigator Score: 90.66/100
Description: The American Nursing Foundation has been giving to the world of nursing in important ways since 1955, with assistance and funds being provided for education, research, clinical practices, and more.
3. American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
Charity Navigator Score: Varies by state, generally over 90/100
Description: This year has been an important one for fighting for and preserving civil rights and freedoms for the black community, and it’s important that we continue the fight. The ACLU has been doing just that since 1920.
4. Crisis Aid International

Description: Crisis Aid International supports those in crisis, need, and in life or death situations throughout the world. During COVID-19, this organization has been targeting efforts to help areas in need that generally do not have access to medical care.
5. Family Promise
Charity Navigator Score: 99.95/100
Description: It’s been a tough one financially this year for millions of families across the U.S. If you want to help make a difference for those who are struggling, Family Promise is a great one to donate to. Family Promise helps homeless and low-income families who are in need and serves to support them gaining their independence.
