There’s a serious PPE crisis in the U.S. and worldwide right now. With the rapid spread of COVID-19, hospitals have found themselves very quickly overwhelmed and with dwindling supply access as a result. With supply shortages now the norm, nurses, physicians, and other medical personnel are finding themselves dangerously under-protected due to lack of PPE. This is not ok; But, unfortunately, it’s the reality we’re currently in.
Often, the worst situations bring out the best in people. The visible need within the medical community inspired communities throughout the U.S. to jump into action. Car manufacturers are trying to fill the ventilator shortage, distilleries are making hand sanitizer, and DIY seamstresses are sewing face masks. It’s action like this that sparks some much-needed hope.
We’ve been enjoying seeing the fun patterns being used in some of these DIY face masks being made by individuals and businesses alike. It provides a unique opportunity for nurses and medical professionals to show some personalized and fun flare while in the middle of this crisis. So where can you and your facility get your hands on some of these masks? Turns out, you probably have some amazing people near you locally making some as you read this. Check with your local neighborhood social groups, like Facebook or Nextdoor. Or, you can visit one of the links below for groups dedicated to providing DIY masks to nurses like you in need.
